And.... we're back.

Hi. First of all, let me apologize for my prolonged absence from blogging. I hope that the following animated illustration will help explain my reasons for temporarily abandoning this website:

Rob Mercatante as photographer

As you can see, I've made the leap into the world of photojournalism. (And, as you also can see, I've evidently specialized in covering the pro-taco movement springing up all over Guatemala.)

In all seriousness... last year I began volunteering with a brand new magazine in Guatemala, called EstePais. I was attracted the magazine's underlying purpose: to cover the major stories in Guatemala, but from a perspective which hopefully accentuates the positive, especially those Guatemalan men and women who struggle day-to-day to build a better Guatemala.

I'll be talking about the magazine a lot more in the upcoming days, but if you want to check it out now, our website address is: www.este-pais.com.

One of the biggest benefits to working at EstePais has been slowly building up an archive of images, that I now want to share with you. Trying to figure out the best way of presenting this massive... and growing... collection of photographs, has been somewhat daunting.

But during these many days of bloggish silence, I've been working on revamping my entire Guatemala photography section. Today I'm proud to share with you the first part of the new (and hopefully improved) section: Guatemala's Personalities.

These are some of the fine folks that I have had the privilege of photographing during interviews for EstePais magazine.

I hope you'll enjoy these portraits of some of Guatemala's movers and shakers. Obviously, the list is just a beginning and I will be continuously updating it.

There's plenty more to come... I hope you join me (or, actually, REjoin me) as I officially launch elcanche.com, version 2.0!

Thanks Mom... I hope I'm finally in a situation where I can give my best to the website. Although it is a lot of work, I've really missed it!

Hey Marisa,

Thanks for the comment. And congratulations on your incredible fund-raising accomplishments during the Walk for Autism... I'm so proud of you! And I can't wait to see y'all either!
