Orange Earthquake alert in Guatemala

gdacs_130607.png

Here’s an amazingly detailed page about the earthquake from The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System.

The GDACS provides near real-time alerts about natural disasters around the world and tools to facilitate response coordination, including media monitoring, map catalogues and Virtual On-Site Operations Coordination Centre.

See their report on the Guatemala earthquake.

Was this post placed before the tremors today?

Hey Paco... thanks for visiting! The very fist post "I felt the earth move" was written right after the tremors. The following two entries, including this one, were posted shortly thereafter.

Rob, This warning or statement occurred after the fact? It is good that you were able to get online immediate after and get information. I hope everything is settled down and hopefully no serious damage has been done. Hope and prayers.

I bet the fourth item you took as you ran for the door was a clean pair of shorts. Glad you're back and I'll see you soon. Love, bro

Vicki,

From what I understand, this site covers naturals disasters and alerts the world to the possible impact of the disaster... everything from mudslides to refugees to tsunamis. It looks to be an excellent resource, especially for those involved in providing aid in the aftermath of a disaster!

Thankfully, it seems that no harm was done. Benedicto Girón, spokesman for Guatemala's emergency services, said: "It has not caused any damage, there is no damage reported."

Andy,

Clean pair of shorts? Honestly, that wouldn't even make the top 10!

Let's see:

#4. my photography books
#5. my photography magazines
#6. my "West Wing" DVDs
#7. the half-eaten bag of Hershey's minatures
#8. my coffee maker
#9. the bag of "El Cafetalito" coffee beans
#10. my Van Morrison cds

Hmmm, now that I look at the list I realize that I really don't own much of value. (Well, they have sentimental value anyway.)

Rebeca,

Gracias por escribir! De que tengan tanta información "los buenos" no asusta... pero que "los malos" lo tengan, eso sí da miedo!!!

De todos modos, mejor dormir con tus cortinas cerradas para no salir camareada tambíen... jeje.
